It’s interesting especially because it’s not often that animation is used in the documentary format - though history reveals more examples than you expect - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animated_documentary
visualizing large numbers: data-visualization November 28, 2008

is a neat solution to the problem, not so much of visualizing exceptional large numbers (ie billions and trillions) - which is very, very difficult to do - but of illustrating the dynamism of large numbers. by simply showing in an animation the relative effect of increasing numbers of things - this is a well-designed neat solution.

This weeks Blog of the Week award goes to Filippa Gustaffson for her fantastically detailed blog. Great to see Filippa is recording her thoughts on her project work in so much detail. The Maya and Flash examples are really excellent, as are her own experiments with programmes like Art Rage and Garage Band. Click on the image above to visit her Blog.

The LilyPad Arduino toolkit by Leah Buechley enables novices to design, engineer, and build their own electronic textiles. The tool not only lets artists and craftspeople experience computational design but also gives children (and grannies) a chance to develop longer-term interest in computing and engineering.

Blog of the Week November 12, 2008
Posted by admin in : Blog of the Week , comments closedThis weeks Blog of the week award gos to third year BA(Hons) Graphic Design (Interactive Media) student Jonathan Joly. Jonathan who is well known to the first years is using his blog as a research tool for his dissertation This an approach we have been campaigning for the Institute to adopt for a while, we feel students should be able to submit there dissertations in other ways like Blogs, web sites, videos or presentations. Jonathan’s dissertation is entitled CAN A POLYGON MAKE YOU CRY? The main question he is asking is “Is it possible for the user or viewer to get emotionally involved with their chosen platform of entertainment if CGI is present?”
He has undertaken some interesting research so far. One piece that may be of interest to all first years working on the Maya project involving face rigging, is this youtube video on a company called Image Metrics.

Hopefully you can see the importance of working with face rigging now?
