Podcasts? Old news; video is where it’s at March 26, 2009
Posted by admin in : Uncategorized , comments closedBelow is an interesting article from todays Guardian, it demonstrates just how popular youtube has become.
“It is difficult to believe that the video revolution is less than four years old, so pervasive have been its effects. While video uploads to the web had existed before, the explosion is down to the rise of YouTube, which got funding in November 2005 and was taken over by Google a year later. It hasn’t looked back since.According to Hitwise, it accounted for 63% of all visits to UK video sites in February and more than 66% if other Google video sites are included. The next best was the BBC, whose iPlayer captured 11% of the market, itself an astonishing feat. No one else managed to get above 2%.
YouTube is not only hugely popular in its own right, but it has become the de facto parking lot for videos on other sites. Although the success of videos has been fuelled by an “I wanna be a celebrity get me in there” culture, it has also had important cultural effects. It has unleashed a global demand to learn film-making and editing. The next generation of directors will come from the Polytechnic of YouTube even if their films are shown online or on mobiles rather than in cinemas”

Student Discount Software March 13, 2009
Posted by admin in : Software , comments closedOne of our ex-students who now works for Microsoft e-mailed me with info about this discount package. Evidently it is not very well publicised but students in full-time education can get the whole office pack for £38.95 a complete steal. This is your chance to mug Bill Gates and save yourself some money too. Click the image below to go the site for more info.

Fantastic Street Art March 11, 2009
Posted by admin in : Street Art , comments closedThis is a really great idea. The sculpture relies on the air of a passing subway train to inflate. I love the fact that the piece is only there for a short period of time and then deflates again appearing just as a pile of rubbish
From Here To There March 10, 2009
Posted by admin in : Alumni , comments closedThis is my first entry for two months, very remiss of me. For all of this time I have been working as curator on the exhibition From Here to There which has just finished at the Gallery in The Arts Institute. This project has taken up all of my time since Christmas.

The exhibition represented 50 years of photography at the Arts Institute and featured the work of 26 ex-students who are all well known phtographers, These included top 1960’s photographer Philip Townsend who has a fantastic archive site and photographed everyone from the Beatles and the Rolling Stones to Winston Churchill and Twiggy, Turner prize winner Wolfgang Tillmans and top fashion photographer Nick Knight. On Friday 6th March 18 of the photographers attended a special drinks reception at the Arts Institute with 350 invited guests.
As well a curating the exhibition I also designed the accompanying publication and website. This is probably the largest design job I have done for 20 year so it was nice to catch up with current design and printing techniques. It is hoped the exhibition may now tour other galleries Nationally and even Internationally.
