About the Course
Course Philosophy
The Foundation Degree Arts (FdA) in Digital Media Production aims to provide a wide range of learners with the opportunity to develop a specialist career in media. We welcome a diverse range of individuals who bring a variety of cultural, experiential and educational backgrounds to the community and through this enhance the dynamic of the group. The underlying principle of the course is to provide high quality media education for students seeking to enter industry or further their professional development.
We have a clear identity defined by the production of quality media solutions, including digital sound and video, post-production techniques and computer-generated imagery. Learners are encouraged to embrace the use of digital technology and develop a body of work informed by their engagement with the discipline. The ethos is to develop a broad range of production skills that allows the individual to work confidently and creatively in the media. Through its strong links with industry the course seeks to reflect the needs of business through a programme of guest speakers, placement and live projects.
We offer a programme of continuing professional development for both traditional and non-traditional learners and provide a pathway for lifelong learning and the opportunity to progress to other qualifications. The FdA is driven by the notion of vocationally focussed learning through practice and professionally orientated critical research. We respond to and celebrate the diversity of the student cohort by locating communication at the heart of practice.
